Hornet Women Capture 3-0 Win in Season Opener Over Sewanee

LYNCHBURG, VA - Three different goal scorers found the back of the net Saturday as the 18th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Sewanee: The University of the South in the first game of the two-day Shellenberger Memorial Classic on Shellenberger Field.
Junior midfielder Shelley Hoath scored the game's first goal on a breakaway to give LC a 1-0 edge 36:16 into play. Senior keeper Jackie Bader made three tough saves to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard in the first half.
Senior midfielder Brittany Klippstein gave the Hornets a 2-0 edge shortly after intermission and freshman Dessi Dupuy netted an insurance goal with 30 minutes remaining. All three tallies were unassisted.
Lynchburg held edges of 26-9 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks. Britt Williams made eight stops for the Tigers (0-1), while Bader earned the shutout with four saves.
The Hornets (1-0) host Birmingham Southern College Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Other Shellenberger Classic games include Roanoke College and Birmingham Southern playing Saturday at 3 p.m. and Roanoke and Sewanee Sunday at 11 a.m.
