LC Volleyball Opens Season at Marymount Tri-Match

MARYMOUNT, VA – The Lynchburg College opened its 2011 season by splitting a pair of non-conference matches Saturday at the Marymount University Tri-Match.

Lynchburg won the first game 25-15, but the Falcons rallies to win the last three 25-20, 25-21, 25-13. Junior Rebecca Loftis and freshman Aricquel Payne each paced LC with nine kills, while Rachel Turk had a game-high 30 assists and eight digs. Payne added 14 digs and Mollie Deacon had 10. Elena Kritter posted six kills and 10 digs and Rachel Huffman had five kills and three blocks.

The Hornets defeated Marymount 26-24, 25-27, 25-15, 25-19 behind 40 assists and 12 digs from Turk. Loftis tied with a game-high 12 kills and five blocks and Casey Parrish tallied 11 kills and 13 digs. Payne contributed eight kills and Mallory Stewart had six blocks and four kills.

The Hornets (1-1) host Shenandoah University Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
