LC Women's Soccer Rides Strong Second Half to ODAC Championship Game
Hornets to Host Championship Game on Sunday

LYNCHBURG, VA – The #3 seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer tournament was locked in a scoreless draw at halftime against Shenandoah, the #7 seed, but rode a strong second half to a 4-1 victory on Thursday night in the ODAC semifinals.

The win, coupled with a loss by #1 seeded Virginia Wesleyan to #4 seeded Bridgewater means that the Hornets will host the championship game on Sunday at a time to be determined.

LC got on the board fairly quickly in the second half. Freshman Alexis Jensen scored her second goal of the season just over seven minutes into the second half. She took the ball up the left sideline, beat a defender, and took a shot that went into the top right corner of the net, out of the reach of Nichole Pratt.

Lynchburg scored again on a goal by senior Shelley Hoath. The midfielder found herself in the right place after a shot by junior Angela Bosco was blocked by a Shenandoah player right to where Hoath was positioned.

Jensen found her second goal of the game and first multi-goal game of her college career ten minutes later on a play that looked almost identical to the first one. This time she took a pass from Michelle Stevens, dribbled up the left sideline, and went low past Pratt.

Kristen Melchiori added the fourth goal for the Hornets off an assist from Tori Dott.

Hannah Oakes scored Shenandoah's only goal on a penalty kick with five minutes remaining.

Audrey Moore and Karsen Schottleutner each made two saves for Lynchburg (18-0-3/9-0-3).

Pratt had eight saves for Shenandoah (9-11-1/6-5-1).

LC outshot the visitors 26-9 and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Lynchburg will play Bridgewater on Sunday in the ODAC Championship. Stay tuned to the Lynchburg Athletics webpage, Facebook, or ODAC Online for the game time.
