#11 Hornets in Fourth Straight ODAC Title Match after 6-0 Blanking of Shenandoah
LYNCHBURG, VA – The #11 Lynchburg College women's soccer team is in its fourth straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship Game after shutting out Shenandoah University 6-0 in Tuesday's semifinal.
It took 17 minutes, but once Lynchburg scored its first goal, the host Hornets pulled away.
Jenn Snyder put a cross from Dessi Dupuy into the back of the net for the game-winner. Three minutes later Angela Bosco found Dupuy for a breakaway goal, making the score 2-0.
Erin Benson surprised the defense, blasting a kick from 30 yards out over the outstretched arm of keeper Erin Septer late in the first half.
Shenandoah kept LC from extending the 3-0 lead until 20 minutes into the second half. Jade Woll found Dupuy on a crossing pass at 65:03 and then again thirty seconds later to advance LC on to another championship match.
Marina Clark extended the home Hornet lead to 6-0 off an assist from Victoria Czenczek with eight minutes remaining.
Septer made 12 saves for SU (11-8-1) while Karsen Schottleutner had one for Lynchburg. LC outshot Shenandoah 36-5 while maintaining a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Top-seeded Lynchburg (20-1), who defeated Virginia Wesleyan College in 2010 and 2011 and Bridgewater College in 2012 for the conference crown, will host #2Washington and Lee University for this year's championship. LC and W&L will face off Saturday at a time to be determined.
The Hornets previously defeated the Generals 1-0 on October 26.
Washington and Lee, the only other team to win an ODAC title apart from LC since 2003, last faced the Hornets for the championship in 2004, a 1-0 Lynchburg victory.
