Dupuy Nets Game Winner as Hornets Defeat Averett 2-1

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior Dessi Dupuy scored the game-winning goal with less than a minute left as the #8 Lynchburg College women's soccer team downed Averett University 2-1 Sunday night.

Lynchburg kept the pressure on the Cougars throughout the first half, taking 12 shots, seven of which were saved by keeper Malin Borjesson.

The closest opportunity in the first half came when Angela Bosco had a kick that was deflected by Borjesson in the 12th minute. Dessi Dupuy followed up the attempt with a strike of her own but could not get it past Borjesson.

Lynchburg finally got to the Averett keeper with less than 25 minutes left in the contest. A foul gave Lynchburg an opportunity for a free kick just to the right of the box where Jessie Gonzalez made a perfect pass in front of the goal. Angela Bosco was in the perfect opportunity to head the ball in for the first score of the game.

The goal at 66:42 gives Bosco a goal in every game played by the Hornets this season.

Averett utilized a foul call for its goal as well when Allison Lord took a free kick from 40 yards out where Jennie Nilsson headed it past the grasp of Karsen Schottleutner.

After spending so much time in front of the goal in the first half, Dupuy got an opportunity to net the game winner with less than a minute remaining. Dupuy headed the ball past Borjesson off a corner kick from Jade Woll.

Lynchburg outshot the Cougars 27-4 while also maintaining an advantage in corners, 10-0.

Borjesson finished with 13 saves for Averett (1-2).

Lynchburg (4-0) travels to Maryville (TN) College (1-0-1) for a 7 p.m. start Friday, September 13.
