Volleyball Completes Homecoming Sweep with Saturday Victory
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team completed a perfect weekend with a three set Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Guilford College, 25-18, 25-8, 25-17, on Saturday afternoon as part of Homecoming Weekend.
The Hornets took a huge advantage over the Quakers due in large part to well-placed serves. Aricquel Payne led Lynchburg will three service aces. In all, eight Hornets collected aces while the team posted 13 in total.
Guilford had the game within a point, 14-13, before Amanda Perry turned in a kill and a service ace on the subsequent point to swing momentum to the Hornets.
Lynchburg pulled away in the second game behind two kills from Perry, and one each from Payne and Jennifer Garrett. A service ace from Mackenzie Ross added up to a 7-1 lead for the Hornets. The Hornets used a .381 hitting percentage to finish off the Quakers in game two.
The Hornets were led by Payne with 11 kills and a .429 hitting percentage while adding nine digs. Perry added six kills as Ross contributed 16 assists to go with 10 digs from Sam Page.
Kelsey Ruehling and Taylor Creed each had six kills for Guilford (6-14/2-5) while Casey Davis added eight assists.
Lynchburg (13-10/6-3) travels to Southern Virginia University on Friday for a 7 p.m. non-conference start.
