#24 Roanoke Scores 1-0 Win over Lynchburg Men
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Roanoke College men's soccer team, ranked #24 this week in Division III, scored in the first half and held on for a 1-0 win Tuesday night at Lynchburg College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) battle for first place. The Maroons remain unbeaten at 8-0-1 in conference play, while LC (7-2) had a six-game winning streak broken and sit in second place.
Roanoke's Marc Dinkel fired a long pass into the Hornet zone and Robby Lentine flicked it just over the goalie's reach to give Roanoke a 1-0 edge at the 18:05 mark of the first half. It was the first goal allowed by the Hornet defense in October.
Lynchburg had a few good chances to get on the scoreboard, with the best opportunity coming with 24:14 left in the second half. Sophomore Adam Reynolds one-timed a crossing pass to the bottom right side of the net, but Maroon keeper Cole Sinclair made a diving stop.
The team statistics for the game were almost even, with LC holding slight edges in total shots (14-11) and corner kicks (7-5). Sinclair made six stops while Hornet net-minder Scott Zaring made three saves.
The Hornets travel to Randolph-Macon College Friday for another conference game at 4 p.m.
