Hornets Take Care of Profs; Earn Important Region Win
GLASSBORO, NJ – Marina Clark found the back of the net and Jade Woll added a brace in the first half to help the #3 Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeat Rowan University 3-0 on Thursday night.
With the home team coming in as the fifth-ranked team in the last South Atlantic Region ranking and the Hornets holding the top spot in the region, it seemed to be a perfect Thursday matchup. However, LC ended any debate about the game early on.
After an Angela Bosco shot was blocked, Clark gained possession of the ball and fired a shot from the top of the box. It ended up in the upper right corner to give Lynchburg the 1-0 lead just 4:31 into the first half.
Clark had another shot later in the half which was saved by Carleigh Trivino. Soon after in the 20th minute, Woll notched her first of the half, after getting around a defender and firing it from the top of the box. Woll completed the double at 25:42, as she landed a shot from the left side of the field.
The Profs earned their first shot of the game shortly after the third goal, but it would be the only one of the first half. Lynchburg however forced Trivino into several more saves prior to the intermission, as the Hornets went into the break with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, it was much like the end of the first. Both teams earned several shots, with Trivino making several saves before the 70th minute rolled around. After the 70th minute, LC did not register a shot and Hornets goalie Tess Frelick made her only stop of the night at 77:00 to preserve another Lynchburg shutout.
The whole team should be lauded for its performance on defense this year, as they have held opponents scoreless for the past 1178 minutes.
Trivino made eight saves in the loss for Rowan (10-4-1 overall). RU earned more corner kicks (6-4), but Lynchburg had 11 shots on goal compared to only one for the Profs.
LC (18-0) closes out the regular season and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference schedule next Wednesday. The Hornets host Hollins University at 4 p.m.
