Randolph-Macon Upsets LC Men 3-1
ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon College men's soccer team upset Lynchburg College Friday afternoon 3-1 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup.
R-MC took a two-goal lead in the first half behind goals from Logan McHugh (via a penalty kick) and Brian Lutz, despite being out-shot 11-3 over the first 45 minutes. Caleb Hatcher added an insurance tally for the Yellow Jackets with 14 minutes remaining on the game clock, and LC's Fredy Flores scored a late goal from Dan Jobrack.
Michael Bly made six saves for the Yellow Jackets. LC held advantages in shots (20-7), shots on goal (7-5) and corner kicks (7-1).
The loss drops the Hornets to 7-3 in league play, but they still sit in second place in the 12-team conference. The Yellow Jackets up their record to 2-8 in the ODAC, but have been eliminated from a chance at participating in the conference championship tournament.
Lynchburg (10-6) has one last ODAC game remaining on the slate, an all-important trip across town to face Randolph College Tuesday at 7 p.m. The single-elimination tournament begins next Saturday, with the top four seeds hosting first-round matches.
