Volleyball Stumbles against Southern Virginia
BUENA VISTA, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team won the second set, but fell to Southern Virginia University 3-1 on Friday afternoon in a non-conference match.
The Hornets won the second game 25-13 behind a .276 hitting percentage. Lynchburg was trailing 4-3 when a kill from Aricquel Payne, two from Amanda Perry, and a Sierra Strathy ace put the Hornets up 8-4. Southern Virginia attempted a comeback but three Knight errors, a kill each from Aricquel Payne, Lyra Payne, and Perry closed the game for Lynchburg.
Jennifer Garrett led the Hornets with eight kills while Aricquel Payne added seven. Lyra Payne contributed five kills while leading Lynchburg with a .400 hitting percentage. Mackenzie Ross led Lynchburg with 15 assists as Sam Page led the way with 12 digs.
Vanessa Pawlak led Southern Virginia (17-8) with 14 kills while Katelynn Tlustek had a game-high 23 assists and April Bennett added 17 digs.
Lynchburg (13-11/6-3) hosts a tri-match on Saturday with matches against Shenandoah University at noon and Catholic University at 4 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Hornets as they recognize Aricquel Payne and Brittany Crawford.
