LC Volleyball Sweep Pair of Matches at Tri-Match
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday as part of a tri-match between the Hornets, Bridgewater College and Averett University in Turner Gymnasium.
LC defeated the Eagles in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match to open the day, 25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 25-10. Senior Aricquel Payne slammed a match-high 17 kills to go with six digs, and Jennifer Garrett had 13 kills, a .440 hitting percentage, and nine digs. Sierra Strathy controlled the middle with nine kills and three blocks and blasted five service aces. Mackenzie Ross had 24 assists and six digs while Lynn Walsh posted 20 assists. Sam Page and Brittany Crawford also each had nine digs, and Amanda Perry and Lyra Payne had three blocks a piece.
Megann Grimes led Bridgewater with 12 kills. Shannon Skellchock had 27 assists and five digs and Abby Mills had 10 digs.
Averett defeated Bridgewater 25-22, 25-14, 25-18 in the middle match of the day.
The Hornets rolled to a 25-15, 25-16, 25-17 win in the nightcap over Averett. Perry slammed a team-best nine kills, while Payne added seven and Garrett and Strathy each had six kills. Ross and Walsh combined for 30 assists, and Payne and Page each had 15 digs.
Hannah Shields paced the Cougars (12-9) with a match-high 17 kills. Nicole Barringer had 26 assists and Christina Summa tallied 12 digs.
Lynchburg (10-9/3-2 ODAC) travels to Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday at 7 p.m. for more ODAC action.
