Second-Half Outburst Seals Victory for Hornets over R-MC

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half Tuesday night, as they defeated Randolph-Macon College 5-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Shellenberger Field.

The Hornets controlled the entire first half, taking nine shots in the first 20 minutes.  Three of the attempts were saved by Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Hannah Moyer, with two others being cleared out by a Randolph-Macon defender.

However, on the tenth attempt, LC finally broke through.  The dynamic duo of Dessi Dupuy and Angela Bosco combined to score the first of the game.  Bosco sent a cross in front of the net which Dupuy sent into the back of the net.

The rest of the half saw only three shots from Lynchburg, as the game would go to the intermission and a lightning delay with the score at 1-0.

The Hornets started quicker in the second stanza, with Bosco doubling the lead with a goal of her own at 47:59.  In the 52nd minute, Kelley Smith connected on a penalty kick after an R-MC foul inside the box.

After the goals, as in the first half, there were few fireworks until the 84th minute as Elizabeth Oden added to the lead, with a brilliant free kick from 30 yards out,  putting the score at 4-0.  Samantha Bagherpour scored in the 88th minute to finish off the second-half flurry.

Moyer made seven saves overall for the Yellow Jackets (5-5-1 overall, 2-4 ODAC).  The Hornets once again outshot their opponents, this time with the tally being 26-3.  While Tess Frelick was only tested once, she did manage to keep the shutout intact making the save.  It is the seventh-straight clean sheet for LC on the season.

Lynchburg (12-0, 7-0) looks to continue its perfect start to the season with a key conference game this Friday.  LC heads to Roanoke College for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
