Hornet Volleyball Match Season-Best Win Streak in Victory
HARRISONBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College volleyball team matched its season-best win streak with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday night.
The Hornets have now won their last three matches, equally a streak set on September 12-13 at the Maryville College Invitational.
Lynchburg fought off a 19-18 deficit in the first game as Jennifer Garrett slammed down a kill to tie the score. Two EMU errors later, Amanda Perry collected a kill for the three point lead. Lynchburg forced Eastern Mennonite into three more errors to close the first game on a 7-0 run.
Eastern Mennonite also managed a lead, 18-17, in the second game before Perry collected three more kills and Sierra Strathy added a pair to help Lynchburg to a 8-3 run down the stretch.
Despite the close nature of the first two games, Lynchburg held large advantages in hitting percentage, helping the Hornets to a 2-0 lead.
Lynchburg had a close early battle in game three, leading 5-4 after an attack error gave the a point to the Royals. The Hornets posted a larger run than they had in game one, going on a 9-0 jump to lead 14-4 to pull away.
Aricquel Payne had 11 kills and nine digs for the Hornets while Perry added 10 and seven respectively. Mackenzie Ross had 20 assists while Lyra Payne led the Hornets with four blocks.
Alexa Weeks had nine kills for EMU (6-15/0-6) while Jasmine Johnson added 20 assists and Katie Miller contributed 15 digs to lead all players.
Lynchburg (11-9/4-2) looks to extend the winning streak to four as the Hornets travel to Virginia Wesleyan College for an ODAC matchup on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m.
