Hornet Volleyball Splits the Final Two Games of the Regular Season

Owings Mills, MD – The Lynchburg College volleyball team traveled to Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon for a double-header against non-conference opponents Muhlenburg College and Stevenson University to wrap up the regular season.  The Hornets started things off with a 3-0 win against Muhlenburg (25-19, 25-21, 25-17) and then came up short in their second match versus Stevenson 3-2 (25-20, 10-25, 25-20, 20-25, 5-15).

Lynchburg rolled through three straight sets to take a victory in the first match against Muhlenberg College.  The strong arms of hitters Jennifer Garrett and Aricquel Payne had 12 and 11 kills, respectively.  Mackenzie Ross assisted her teammates 32 times while Sam Page, Mesa Willis and Payne combined for 44 of the team's 59 digs.

Muhlenberg (24-7) was led by Allison Glass who had 11 digs.  Elizabeth Garrison had 19 digs and Nikki Dickson had 13 assists.

In the second match of the afternoon, the Hornets came up just short of finishing the regular season on a five-game win streak against the home team, Stevenson University, with a final score of 3-2.  For LC, this hard-fought match was led on the defensive end by four Hornets who posted double-figure digs (Page 28, Payne 22, Lynn Walsh 14, and Willis 10).  Aricquel Payne slammed down 17 kills to add to her career total.

Stevenson's (27-5) Annika Schwartz and Megan Miller had 15 and 12 kills, respectively.  The duo of Kristen Brooks and Samantha Perillo provided 27 digs apiece to hold on to win.

Lynchburg finishes the season with a 17-12 record overall and an 8-3 record in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  Post-season play will begin next Wednesday night as the Hornets will host Roanoke College at a time to be determined.
