#1 Hornets Women's Soccer Moves on to Elite 8 with 2-0 Victory

GRANTHAM, PA – The #1-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team got a pair of goals from senior Dessi Dupuy, one early and one late, to down Montclair State University in the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The win advances the Hornets to the fourth round where they will take on Messiah College for a spot in the Final Four in Kansas City, Missouri. This is the farthest the Hornets have advanced in the NCAA Tournament since reaching the Final Four in 2009.

Lynchburg got on the board just under 10 minutes into the game as Angela Bosco worked the ball into the box where Dupuy sent it into the back of the net past keeper Gina Policastro.

The Hornets continued to keep the pressure on throughout the first half, forcing Policastro to make three saves.

Montclair State came out immediately after the halftime break and pushed the ball into the Hornet zone. The Red Hawks tried to get into the box, but the Hornet defense thwarted opportunity after opportunity.

Five minutes into the second half Lynchburg responded. The Hornets upped the offensive pressure and took a 7-1 advantage in shots in the second half.

Jade Woll had several opportunities down the stretch but one shot was saved by Policastro. She made another cross later that went past the diving Policastro, but an impressive effort by a Red Hawk defender made a save on a Bosco attempt to keep the score at 1-0.

Lynchburg added the insurance tally at 84:26 when Bosco had the ball at the top of the box once again. Charging the box, Bosco turned the defender and passed the ball off to Dupuy. The senior drew Policastro out the net and scored for the 2-0 lead.

Tess Frelick made one save to pick up her 10th shutout of the season. Policastro finished with seven saves in the loss for Montclair State (19-2-2).

Lynchburg led 13-6 in shots while corner kicks were tied at three.

Lynchburg (25-0) will play #2 Messiah College (22-0-2) at 1 p.m. Sunday for the Final Four berth. LC alumni interested in attending Sunday's match-up of the top two teams in the nation can sign up for tickets via this link.
