LC Women Score 3-0 Victory over Southern Virginia
LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College senior Dessi Dupuy factored in on all three goals as the Hornet women's soccer team opened the 2014 season with a 3-0 victory over Southern Virginia University in the second game of the Shellenberger Memorial Classic.
The Hornets started the 2014 season in quick order, commandeering a 2-0 lead under six minutes into the match. Morgan Singer started the scoring for Lynchburg as she was able to get in behind the defense to receive the pass from Dupuy. The junior forward hammered the ball past the keeper to net a 1-0 advantage at the 2:37 mark.
Dupuy picked up another helper three minutes later when she found Jade Woll for a 2-0 advantage at 5:31. The Hornet defense made the 2-0 lead look even larger as they held Southern Virginia to no shot attempts in the first half. Knight keeper MaKenzie Cox did a good job of not letting Lynchburg extend the early advantage, stopping four shots in the first half.
Dupuy scored herself at the 51:39 mark of the second half off of a rebound. Neither team found the back of the net for the final 38 minutes.
MaKenzie Cox finished with eight saves for the Knights (0-1), while Tess Frelick and Ashley Cox split time in net for LC to preserve the shutout. Lynchburg out-shot SVU 32-5 and had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hornets (1-0) host Averett University Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the classic's final game.
