Hornets Roll to 6-0 Win over Averett in Women's Soccer
LYNCHBURG, VA – The 18th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 win over visiting Averett University 6-0 Saturday evening in the final contest in the Shellenberger Memorial Classic.
Senior midfielder Dana Nelsen found junior forward Morgan Singer 10:37 into the contest to put LC ahead 1-0. Kelley Smith scored from Singer and Marina Clark found the back of the net to give Lynchburg a 3-0 halftime edge.
Jade Woll scored just two minutes after the break on an assist from Natalie Deacon and scored again exactly seven minutes later. Elizabeth Oden capped the scoring with a 35-year boot from Camille Bartley with eight minutes remaining.
Ashley Jones made eight saves for Averett (0-2). The Hornets held significant advantages in shots (42-0) and corner kicks (11-1).
The Hornets (2-0) travel to Salem, VA for the Roanoke College Tournament next weekend. LC faces Johns Hopkins Saturday and Franklin & Marshall on Sunday, both at 2:30 p.m.
