Hornet Volleyball Earn First Win of 2014 over Agnes Scott
ROME, GA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team picked up its first victory of the 2014 season with a three-game victory over Agnes Scott College in the Berry College Invitational, 25-15, 25-11, 25-17 on Saturday.
The Hornets controlled the match from the onset, not letting Agnes Scott get close in any set to open the invitational. Lynchburg got stronger in each game, hitting a high of .303 in the third game while picking up 13 kills.
Aricquel Payne led the Hornets with nine kills while adding three services aces and six digs. Sierra Strathy contributed six kills to go along with a career-high six service aces. Lynn Walsh made an impact in her first college match with five service aces and five assists as Gabby Myers led LC with 11 assists and Brittany Crawford and Sam Page corralled 10 and nine digs respectively.
Emory University, the second-ranked team in NCAA Division III, defeated LC 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 in the Hornets' second match of the day. Strathy slammed nine kills with no errors on just 14 attempts and added three blocks. Jennifer Garrett and Aricquel Payne each had six kills, Myers had eight assists and Crawford posted 12 digs.
LC (1-1) finishes off the Berry College Invitational on Sunday with matches against DePauw at 10 a.m. and Berry at noon.
