Hornet Volleyball Opens Play at Maryville Invite

MARYVILLE, TN – The Lynchburg College volleyball team opened play Friday afternoon at the Maryville College Invitational, with four matches scheduled over the weekend.

LC dropped the opener 25-21, 25-19, 26-24 to Capital University (OH). Junior Sierra Strathy slammed eight kills with no errors in just 11 attempts, and also had four blocks. Aricquel Payne posted seven kills and five digs and Gabby Myers and Mackenzie Ross combined for 22 assists. Brittany Crawford had 10 digs and Sam Page had eight.

Kristin Bender paced the Crusaders (4-7) with eight kills and four blocks.

Lynchburg picked up the nightcap against Maryville College with a close 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 victory. The Hornet hitting percentage improved in each game to preserve the win. Strathy led the Hornets with 12 kills and six blocks while Payne added 10 more kills. Ross had 19 assists in the match as Page contributed 13 digs.

Lynchburg (4-6) faces Earlham (noon) and Oglethorpe (6 p.m.) on Saturday before heading back to Virginia.
