Dupuy Sets Scoring Record as Bosco's Hat Trick Downs Bridgewater
BRIDGEWATER, VA – The No. 8 ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team scored the first five goals of Saturday's match to defeat Bridgewater College 5-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams.
Dessi Dupuy scored the final goal for the Hornets at 74:23. The senior now sits atop the all-time goals leaderboard with 80. She passes the total posted by 1999 Lynchburg graduate Karen O'Connor who finished her career with 79 scores.
Angela Bosco started the scoring for the Hornets though when Jade Woll found her from 15 yards out streaking up the left side. Dupuy got into the action by way of the assist when she found Morgan Singer for a score 20 seconds before the halftime whistle.
It took less than 20 minutes for Bosco to put the game out of reach for Bridgewater, scoring an unassisted attempt at 54:11 and collecting the Kelley Smith assist eight minutes later.
The strong second-half surge by the Hornets led to the record-setting goal by Dupuy as Singer found the all-time leading scorer in the box.
Bridgewater got on the board with less than ten minutes to play as Julia Baca ripped a shot into the upper right corner of the goal for the score.
Tess Frelick made three saves for the Hornets while Krista Kelly took the loss despite seven saves in goal for the Eagles (4-2/0-1).
Lynchburg outshot Bridgewater 22-7 and maintained a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hornets (5-0/1-0) host Emory & Henry College (1-5/0-1) for an ODAC matchup on Friday, September 19 at 8 p.m. to kick off Parents' and Family Weekend at Lynchburg.
