LC Volleyball Wins Two at Maryville Tourney
MARYVILLE, TN - The Lynchburg College volleyball team earned two victories on the final day of play Saturday at the two-day Maryville College Invitational.
Senior Aricquel Payne slammed 11 kills in the opener Saturday as LC cruised to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-12 win over Earlham College (IN). Payne made only one error in 16 attack attempts and added four service aces. Sierra Strathy and Amanda Perry each had six kills while Lynn Walsh tallied 10 assists. Strathy added five service aces.
Kayla Morris led the Quakers (3-8) with 10 kills.
The Hornets took the nightcap 25-21, 25-27, 25-19, 19-25, 15-12 against Oglethorpe University (GA). The fifth and deciding game was tied at 12 all, before LC took over. Payne blasted a kill to go ahead, followed by an attack error from the Stormy Petrels to give Lynchburg a 14-12 edge. Payne ended the contest with another kill, her 20th of the match to go with 17 digs.
Perry had 16 kills in the five-set win, while Walsh assisted on 26 points with 15 digs. Mackenzie Ross contributed 14 assists, while Sam Page had a team-best 22 digs.Lyra Payne had two solo blocks and four assisted blocks and Gabby Myers had eight assists and nine digs.
McKenna Bondarerko tallied 20 kills, 14 digs and five blocks for Oglethorpe (8-3), and Katie Stewart had 42 assists and 17 digs.
Lynchburg (6-6) opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition Wednesday at defending league champion Washington & Lee University at 6:30 p.m.
