Hornets Open ODAC Schedule with 3-1 Win over H-SC

LYNCHBURG, VA – Tim Clancy scored two goals and notched an assist to help propel the Lynchburg College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday night.  It was the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game for both teams.

Each team had early chances, as H-SC goalie Cameron McFarlane stopped a Daniel Jobrack shot and the crossbar helped out the Hornets.  After that, the Hornets gained most of the advantage over the next 20 minutes, earning three corner kicks and several shots.  Lynchburg finally broke through at 23:20.  Clancy deflected a throw in into the back of the net to give them the 1-0 lead before a slew of substitutions came in.

The Tigers and the Hornets had opportunities after the introduction of the new players, but neither team could find the back of the net, and Lynchburg took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, LC came out of the gate quickly to add to its lead.  Jobrack opened up his account for the season, netting a goal off a free kick from Clancy.  Nine minutes later, in the 63rd minute, the same two combined, with help from Jon Mackey, to push the advantage to three.  This time Clancy notching his brace off a quick one touch pass from Jobrack, who received the same from Mackey.

Despite the deficit, the Tigers did not give up, recording the next three shots.  Michael Kim finally broke through for H-SC at 85:57, but it would not prove to be any trouble for the Hornets.

McFarlane made three saves in the loss for Hampden-Sydney (3-3 overall, 0-1 ODAC).  The Hornets controlled the statistics as well, outshooting H-SC 10-7 and taking six corner kicks against the visitors single one, which came in 7th minute.

LC (4-2, 1-0) continues its homestand on Saturday night as part of Parents and Family Weekend.  The Hornets will play Bridgewater College at 7 p.m. to cap off the weekend.
