Career Highs from Myers, Perry Not Enough to Overcome the Knights
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team lost a heartbreaker Friday night at Turner Gymnasium in a non-conference battle against Southern Virginia University 26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-12.
Southern Virginia won the first set by a slim margin, 26-24. Lynchburg answered with a 25-17 win in the second set. The third went in favor of the Knights by only three points. Once again, the Hornets responded with another 25-17 win to force a fifth set. Both teams went back and forth at the end as the Knights came out on top by a mere three points to defeat LC.
Terrific performances by multiple Hornets were the story of the match. Junior Gabby Myers assisted her teammates 56 times to reach her career high as well as place herself seventh all-time for sets in a match at Lynchburg College. Amanda Perry also set a career high in kills with 17, while also accumulating 15 digs.
The strong arms of Aricquel Payne and Jennifer Garrett combined to provide 33 kills for the Hornets. Payne supplemented her play with solid defense, adding 22 digs.
April Bennett had 18 digs for Southern Virginia (11-6), while Kaitlyn Eaton hit 17 kills.
Lynchburg (8-9) will be back in action again Saturday, October 4, with a pair of matches against Bridgewater College and Averett University at home.
