LC Men Battle to 1-1 Double OT Draw at Va. Wesleyan
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team fought to a 1-1 double overtime draw Saturday evening at Virginia Wesleyan College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.
All of the game's scoring took place in the first 18 minutes of play. The Marlins were awarded a penalty kick at 11:05 and Josh Kemp took advantage for an early 1-0 VWC lead.
The Hornets answered off of a corner in the 18th minute, as Fredy Flores scored from Matt Truslow to even the score.
Following a VWC red card, Lynchburg played a man up for the final 18 minutes of regulation and 17:40 of overtime before a Hornet player was ejected to even play. A total of 12 cards were issued and 36 fouls whistled.
Neither team could find the back of the net for the final 90 minutes of play, although the Hornets dominated the statistical categories with a 28-10 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Connor Kirkham made a career high 14 saves for the Marlins (4-3-2/1-1-2 ODAC).
Cory Budka made four stops for LC.
Lynchburg (6-2-3/2-1-2) looks to get back in the win column with another ODAC match Wednesday at home against Washington & Lee University at 7 p.m. The Generals lead the conference with a 5-0 record.
