Hornet Men's Soccer Ties ODAC-Leading W&L 1-1 in 2 OTs
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team tied conference-leading Washington & Lee University 1-1 in double overtime Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest. LC scored early and led most of the way, but were denied a huge conference victory by a late General tally.
Sophomore Fredy Flores tipped in a crossing pass from Collin Kashmer at 16:58 to give LC a 1-0 lead and the advantage held up until the closing minutes of regulation.
Lynchburg had a chance to extend the lead eight minutes after intermission, but a shot by Jon Mackey hit the crossbar. Flores had another opportunity for an insurance goal with four minutes left on the game clock, but his shot hit off the far post and bounced out of danger.
The Generals scored the equalizer with just under three minutes on the game clock as Will Hamryka found the back of the net. Neither team could get on the scoreboard in overtime.
The Generals enjoyed a 23-11 advantage in shots, but only two of those were on goal. W&L also had an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
Gillen Beck made three saves for W&L (7-3-2/5-0-1 ODAC), while Cory Budka stopped one shot for LC.
The Hornets (6-2-4/2-1-3) host Eastern Mennonite University Saturday at 4 p.m. as part of Homecoming 2015 weekend. The six Hornet seniors will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Day.
