Hornet VB Rally Falls just short at Roanoke

SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team's rally fell just short Saturday afternoon at Roanoke College, falling 25-27, 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 18-16 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

The Maroons led two games to one but LC led nearly the entire fourth set to even the score. RC scored the first nine points of the fifth set but the Hornets battled back to tie the contest at 15 all and again at 16 all. Shelby Frost delivered back-to-back kills to end the match.

Jen Garrett paced both teams with 17 kills and 22 digs, and Kelly Layne slammed 13 kills and added five blocks. Mesa Willis had 11 kills and 12 digs, Lynn Walsh had 39 assists and Sam Page tallied 19 digs. Amanda Wrightson had seven digs and Amelia Dalton added nine digs and four blocks.

Kylah Blackmore posted team-highs of 15 kills and 21 digs for Roanoke (19-4/7-2 ODAC). Jessica Block handed out 42 assists and Alexandra Martin added 21 digs.

The Hornets (7-12/3-6) travel to Eastern Mennonite University for another ODAC match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
