Hannah Olds Scores Game-Winner as LC Women Defeat VWC 1-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore forward Hannah Olds scored the game-winner in the closing minutes Wednesday night as the 12th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team slid past Virginia Wesleyan College 1-0 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The win assures the Hornets at least a share of the ODAC regular-season title with a 9-0-1 conference record and one game left on the slate. Shenandoah University is 8-1-1.
Both teams had scoring chances in the first 45 minutes but the game remained scoreless through the first half. Lynchburg had an excellent opportunity 10 minutes after intermission, but sophomore defender Emily Maxwell's header hit off the goal post. LC finally broke the scoreless tie at the 81:26 mark, when senior Jade Woll fired a centering pass in front of the goal mouth and Olds headed it into the back of the net from short distance.
LC held a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
Tess Frelick made four stops to record her seventh shutout on the season. Megan Gerhart made seven stops for Virginia Wesleyan (9-9-/7-3 ODAC).
The Hornets (16-2-1 overall) travel to Emory & Henry College Friday for another ODAC match at 6 p.m. The complete conference tournament brackets will be released this weekend, with the first round starting on Wednesday.
