Randolph Rallies for Five Set Victory over LC
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team lost Wednesday night to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph College in five sets, 17-25, 13-25, 25-23, 25-17, and 17-15.
Lynchburg came out strong in the first set and captured a 25-17 victory, and breezed through the second set with a 25-13 win. In the third set the two teams traded points throughout and Randolph squeezed by with a narrow victory of 25-23. Randolph was strong in the fourth set and won 25-17, which sent the game into an exciting fifth set. The WildCats were strong at the beginning of the set, but LC came back to take the lead, the teams traded points up until the end, with Randolph gaining a narrow edge and winning 17-15.
Jen Garrett led the Hornets with 19 kills and 11 digs, while senior Kelly Layne had 14 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Mesa Willis also contributed 14 kills, while Amelia Dalton tallied nine kills. Gabby Myers also had nine kills to go along with 25 assists. Lynn Walsh added 29 assists and 13 digs, and Sam Page compiled a game high 16 digs for LC.
Noelle Wojciechowski and Rebecca Lesnak each had 10 kills for Randolph (8-19/4-7 ODAC). Alex Mariona and Autumn Troxell tallied nine and eight kills, respectively. Brooks Gillerlain had a team-high 28 assists, while also adding eight digs. Katie Brown contributed 11 digs and Cassie Maddox added nine.
The Hornets (8-15/4-9 ODAC) will finish up the regular season with two matches at Messiah College on Saturday. The Hornets will face Eastern at 12:30 p.m. and play the hosts at 2:30 p.m.
