LC Volleyball Faces Two Tough Foes at Messiah College Tri-Match
GRANTHAM, PA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches Saturday in three sets to Eastern University and Messiah College in a tri-match hosted at Messiah.
Eastern (23-7), the 13th-ranked team in NCAA Division III this week, defeated LC 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 behind 10 kills each from Stephanie Elechko and Erin Hillman. Jen Garrett paced the Hornets with eight kills and eight digs, while Mesa Willis and Kelly Layne each had four kills. Gabby Myers collected 11 digs while Sam Page added 10, and Lynn Walsh had a team-high 12 assists.
Messiah scored a 25-10, 25-12, 25-13 victory over Lynchburg in the second match. Garrett slammed nine kills for LC to go with five digs, and Walsh and Myers had eight and seven assists, respectively. Messiah, ranked #8 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, had 15 kills and 12 digs from Kristen Douglas. Brooke Gallagher contributed 34 assists.
Lynchburg ends the regular season 8-17, and awaits the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announcement Sunday of the seeds and match-ups in next week's championship tournament. The Hornets have reached the finals in each of the last three years.
