Kennedy Jakubek Goal Gives #4 LC Women's Soccer 1-0 Win at W&L
LEXINGTON, VA – Freshman Kennedy Jakubek broke a scoreless tie midway into the second half Monday to give the Lynchburg College women's soccer team an important 1-0 victory at Washington & Lee University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match. The Hornets move into a tie for first place in the league with a 4-0 record, while the Generals fall to 3-1.
The match was originally scheduled for Saturday morning, but was pushed back two days due to inclement conditions.
The first half and the first 23 minutes of the second half were scoreless until Jakubek's found the back of the net from Brooke Kowalski at 68:08. W&L had two corner kicks in the final 10 minutes but couldn't get off a shot.
LC goalie Tess Frelick made four saves to help the Hornets record their third-straight shutout. General net-minder Addie Healy also made four stops.
Lynchburg held a 15-9 edge in shots and a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
LC (11-1) travels to Randolph-Macon College Wednesday for another ODAC match at 5 p.m.
