Late Goal Lifts Rowan to 1-0 Win over LC Women's Soccer in NCAA Tournament Second Round

GLASSBORO, NJ – Darah Wagner headed in a corner kick with under two minutes to play to give the Rowan University women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Lynchburg College Sunday evening in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The game was scoreless for over 88 minutes until the Profs were awarded a corner kick. The attempt was headed out of bounds by the LC defense, leading to a second corner immediately thereafter. Maxine New delivered the pass to Wagner near the far post and at the 88:28 mark Wagner headed in the game winner.

LC had a chance to even the score with seven seconds on the game clock, but a free kick just outside the box sailed a few feet high and the remaining time ran out.

The Hornets outshot their hosts 13-6 and put five shots on goal, all saves by Prof keeper Shelby Money. Rowan held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks, with six coming in the second half. LC keeper Tess Frelick made two stops.

Rowan (15-2-2) advances to the Sweet 16, and matches up with top-ranked Messiah College next weekend.

The Hornet season ends with a 20-3-2 record, ranked #12 in NCAA Division III. The defending national champions earned their sixth-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference title and 2015 was the fourth-straight season with at least one victory in the NCAA Tournament.
