Hornet Women's Soccer Advances to ODAC Finals with 4-0 win over Va. Wesleyan
LYNCHBURG, VA – The top-seeded Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated #4 Virginia Wesleyan College 4-0 Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. LC advances to the finals Sunday, looking for the program's sixth-straight conference title.
Junior midfielder Marina Clark found the back of the net off of a cross from senior Jade Woll at 21:44 to open the scoring. It remained a one-goal game for the next 15 minutes until freshman Caitlin Mertens headed in a goal off another crossing pass from Woll. The Hornets entered intermission ahead 2-0.
Senior Morgan Singer pushed the lead to 3-0 at 51:20, knocking in a rebound from a Frances Foster shot attempt. Singer added an insurance goal six minutes later on a deflection from a ball from Sarah Schrader.
Lynchburg controlled both the shot (15-3) and corner kick (6-2) categories.
Virginia Wesleyan (11-10) keeper Megan Gerhart made four saves.
The Hornets (19-2-1), ranked #13 in NCAA Division III this week, will face the winner of today's other semifinal contest between #3 Shenandoah University and #6 Roanoke College.
