Hornet Women's Soccer Breezes to 5-0 victory over Southern Virginia
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior Morgan Singer posted two first-half goals to lead the Lynchburg College women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Southern Virginia University Saturday night. It was the final game in the 2015 Shellenberger Classic with LC finishing 2-0. Salisbury University and Roanoke College each went 1-1.
Singer first struck 15 minutes in, scoring on an assist from Hannah Olds. She made it a two-goal game at the 28:43 mark with help from Marina Clark, and Nicole Kopsidas and Caitlin Mertins also found the back of the net before intermission.
Frances Foster scored not long after halftime to push the lead to 5-0 off a cross from Kennedy Jakubek.
Lynchburg outshot the Knights 39-3 and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Savannah Uri made 11 saves for SVU (1-4). Tess Frelick and Kylie Peters each made a save to preserve the Hornets' third shutout of the season.
The Hornets (4-0) host Salem College (NC) Wednesday at 4 p.m. back on Shellenberger Field in more non-conference play.
