Lynchburg Volleyball Drops Two Matches in Final Day of Tournament
LEXINGTON, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team lost two matches Saturday in the second day of the Washington and Lee Invitational.
Lynchburg dropped the first match of the day 3-1 to Averett University (7-3). Jen Garrett had a team-high 13 kills with 18 digs and four blocks. Amelia Dalton, Mesa Willis, Kelly Layne and Amanda Wrightson each had six kills. Lynn Walsh contributed 22 assists and Sam Page had 23 digs.
The Hornets played Southern Virginia University in the second match of the afternoon in four sets.
Garrett led the Hornets with 14 kills and seven digs, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team. Dalton and Layne each contributed eight kills. Gabby Myers had a team high 19 assists, while Walsh had 15. Page posted 19 digs and Maral Tsolmon had 11.
Allison Tiegs had 17 kills for the Knights (2-8), while Claire Houghtaling contributed 15 and Hannah Phillips had 13. Valerie Baety posted a game high 45 assists. Phillips had 17 digs and Houghtaling had 12.
The Hornets (3-6) will open up Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at home on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. against Guilford College.
