Lynchburg Volleyball defeats Guilford 3-1
Lynchburg, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team beat Guilford College 3-1 Wednesday to win its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match of the season.
The Hornets defeated the Quakers in the first set 25-20. The second set went back and forth, until the Quakers took the set 25-21, but LC was able to win the third set 25-21. The fourth set was close throughout, and Lynchburg was able to pull away with a 25-20 victory.
Freshman Amelia Dalton led the Hornets with 11 kills, while Jen Garrett and Kelly Layne each contributed nine. Mesa Willis had seven to go along with eight digs. Lynn Walsh had 22 assists and Gabby Myers added 10. Maral Tsolmon had four service aces for the Hornets, Sam Page had 14 digs and Garrett had 10.
Casey Davis had 15 kills and 18 digs for Guilford (1-7/0-1 ODAC), while Kelsey Ruehling had 11 and 20 respectively. Maile Munro had a game high 40 assists, and Steffi Dutton contributed 15 digs for the Quakers.
Lynchburg (4-6/1-0 ODAC) will return to action on Friday night at 6 p.m. to play against ODAC opponent Shenandoah University. On Saturday the Hornets will host the Generals of Washington and Lee University for a 1 p.m. ODAC matchup.
