Frances Foster Lifts LC Women's Soccer to 1-0 Double OT Win over Roanoke
LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore forward Frances Foster broke a scoreless tie in the second overtime period Friday evening to give the Lynchburg College women's soccer team a 1-0 win over visiting Roanoke College Friday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The Hornets are the top ranked team in NCAA Division III and haven't lost a game in over 22 months.
LC had a few chances to end the game near the end of regulation and in the first 10-minute overtime period, but couldn't convert. With less than four minutes left to play, LC played the ball into the Maroons' defensive zone and Camille Bartley passed the ball back through traffic to Foster for the game-winning 25-yard boot from the top of the box.
LC outshot Roanoke 28-4, but the RC defense held Lynchburg to just eight shots on net. Sarah Dvorak made stops on seven of those shots.
Hornet keeper Tess Frelick made two saves in her 106:28 of play, and has allowed just one score all season. Lynchburg held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Roanoke falls to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Hornets (6-0/1-0 ODAC) host Trinity University (TX) Sunday at 11 a.m. in a battle of top five teams. The Tigers are ranked #5 in this week's NCAA poll.
