LC Men's Soccer Ties #4 Christopher Newport University 1-1 in Double OT

Newport News, VA – The Lynchburg College men's soccer team tied #4 Christopher Newport University 1-1 in double overtime in a defensive battle Wednesday night.

CNU started the game out with a fierce attack that kept most of the possession for the first 15 minutes of the game. After LC goalkeeper Cory Budka fended off the early Captain attack, the Hornets would start to find an offensive groove. LC forward Collin Kashmer found himself with the ball in the CNU box during the 31st minute when he took a shot that was blocked point blank by a Captain defender that would've put the Hornets up 1-0. The Hornets would continue to earn opportunities and during the 27th minute midfielder Jon Mackey headed a corner kick that took an airborne one-handed save by CNU goalkeeper Nolan Mann to keep the game 0-0. Hard work paid off for LC during the 40th minute when midfielder Daniel Jobrack fed forward Adam Reynolds who netted the game's first goal to give the Hornets a 1-0 advantage over the Captains.

CNU was able to score a goal and even the game 1-1 during the 56th minute when forward Patrick Burns found the back of the net from a Harry Nodwell through pass. After the CNU goal, most of the remaining time in regulation was played in the midfield.

Budka made the stop of the game when he made a one-handed diving save to keep the game even with just 48 seconds left in the first overtime. The second overtime saw a plethora of Captain opportunities, including two corner kicks while the Hornets had one.

Christopher Newport (7-1-2) held advantages in shots (18-10) and corner kicks (14-3). Budka made eight stops, while Mann made four saves.

The Hornets (4-1-2) have a full week off until they travel to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Hampden-Sydney College next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tilt.
