Box Score Atlanta, Ga. -- An exciting second half led to overtime in the match between Lynchburg and Oglethorpe but neither team could find the game winner and the match ended 2-2 after 2OT.
Even though the teams combined for 12 shots in the first half, neither squad was able to net a goal while both keepers recorded two saves each.
The second half provided more entertainment for the fans at Salamone Field. After 14 shots, Lynchburg finally broke through and opened the scoring. The Stormy Petrels gave the ball away at the top of the box and sophomore Zach Thomas found senior Ben Grossfuss who was able to rip a shot past the keeper and put the Hornets up 1-0.
Oglethorpe then answered with a pair of goals, the first coming only three minutes after the Hornets goal by Devon Patterson and the second finished by Topher Marshall.
Lynchbrug drew even with Oglethorpe as Senior Fredy Flores upped his season goal total to three after he scored on a beautiful service from sophomore Austin Kues in the 72nd minute.
Both teams struggled to create chances in the overtime periods and after 20 extra minutes the score remained the same.
Sophomore Dylan McLaurin played the entire 110 minutes for the Hornets and recorded two saves and moved to 2-0-2 on the year.
Grossfuss and Thomas led the team with three shots while sophomore Dan Friedberg and freshman Jack Ashby tallied two shots each.
The Hornets will remain in the Peach State as they head to Rome to face off against Berry College tomorrow, Sept. 17 at 4:00 pm. The next home match for the men will be Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 pm against the #8 Captains of Christopher Newport University, in a Top 25 mactchup.
