Rome, GA -- When Lynchburg Men's Soccer returns to Lynchburg College this weekend, they will have traveled 987 miles and picked up a big non-conference road win vs Berry College. On Saturday afternoon, Lynchburg rallied behind a late goal from Adam Reynolds toward the end of the first, holding on for the 1-0 win.
Reynolds took time to take us through the play leading up to his goal in his own words, stating, "Sherman [William] did a good job of holding it up in the corner and dropping it to me. I cut in and saw the goalie hovering close to the far post so I focused on putting it near post on the ground knowing it would be tough for him to reach."
Reynolds also had great words to describe his team's production the rest of the game. "The rest of the game was a battle of heart and the entire team showed a lot of it, closing in on a tiring weekend."
The game was very even throughout, with each team getting plenty of shots. The Hornets finished with 12 while the Vikings (4-3) established 10. Only 3 of those 10 were on goal for Berry and sophomore goalkeeper Dylan McLaurin saved each one. With the shutout, McLaurin is now tied for first in the ODAC with 4 goose eggs.
Coach Chris Yeager points to the amount of athletes that got involved today as compared to their 2-2 tie with Oglethorpe the day before, saying, "A few more guys contributed today which really helped raise the level of play."
The win is a great momentum builder as the 4-0-2 Hornets welcome Christopher Newport University to Shellenberger Field this Wednesday night at 7:00pm. The undefeated, #8 Captains, will be barraged by a sea of red with the game being a part of the Code Red intiative within Lynchburg College athletics. Students and fans alike are asked to wear red to support and cheer on their fellow Hornets.
