Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College women's soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Roanoke in overtime Friday night.
Junior Caitlin Mertens (Succasunna, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute on an assist from midfielder Emily Sanchez (Orangeburg, N.Y.).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half proved challenging for both teams with Roanoke's defense only allowing four shots and Lynchburg letting up one.

The Hornets kicked it up in the second half with 13 shots and four corner kicks, but still resulted a 0-0 score, leading to overtime.

After a few minutes of physical play, Lynchburg's Georgie Duggan (Stafford, Va.) played a ball high in front of the goal from the left side of the box. Battling the defense, Sanchez was able to get it to Mertens, who found the back of the net to finish the game.

The Hornets defense turned in its seventh shutout of the season.
LOOKING AHEAD
Lynchburg will travel to Emory, Va. to face Emory & Henry on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. in another ODAC matchup.
