Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg College's women's soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals and controlled the game from whistle to whistle, coming out ahead in a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference match against visiting Guilford on Homecoming Friday.

The Hornets out-shot Guilford 27-1 in the match.

At halftime, Lynchburg celebrated its 1997 ODAC championship team, which is being recognized this weekend as a Team of Distinction in the LC Sports Hall of Fame, as well as any alumni present who have been part of the 30-year history of the program.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Lynchburg launched four shots in the first 19 minutes of play but were unable to break through until the fifth shot, a 20th-minute left-side finish by Emily Sanchez (Orangeburg, N.Y.) on a Georgie Duggan (Stafford, Va.) assist. It was Sanchez's first goal of the season.

- Katie Waring (Chester, Va.) added the Hornets' second score in the 37th minute, chasing down Sarah Barnes' (Cary, N.C.) ball over the top and heading it over the charging Quakers' goalkeeper.

LOOKING AHEAD

No. 22 Lynchburg will travel north to Pittsburgh, Pa. on Sunday to take on No. 9-ranked Carnegie Mellon in a late-season marquee matchup.
