Women's soccer loses defensive struggle at No. 9 CMU

Box Score

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- The Lynchburg College women's soccer team fought a tough defensive battle on the road Saturday, but the Hornets fell to No. 9 Carnegie Mellon, 1-0, in a marquee match between ranked teams.

Tori Iatarola scored the game-winning goal in the 21st minute for the Tartans.

The Hornets put two shots on frame in the match -- one more than their opponents -- but both were saved by CMU keeper Carolyn Botz. The loss brings Lynchburg's eight-match win streak to a close.

- CMU broke through the Lynchburg defense in the 21st minute when Tessa Allen headed the ball to Iatarola in the box, and the senior finished for her second goal of the season.

- Lynchburg's best chance to tie the match came in the 69th minute. Caitlin Mertens (Succasunna, N.J.) put a shot on frame, but Botz was there again for the save.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 25 when Bridgewater College's Eagles come to Shellenberger Field.
