Virginia Beach, Va. -- Lynchburg College's women's soccer team exploded for two goals in a five-minute span midway through Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference semifinal match, and it was enough for the second-seeded Hornets to oust No. 3-seed Roanoke from the tournament by means of a 2-1 victory at Virginia Wesleyan University.

Kennedy Jakubek (Leesburg, Va.) and Georgie Duggan (Stafford, Va.) did the scoring for the Hornets, as the program is now one victory away from its conference-leading 15th ODAC championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- After a scoreless first half in which LC out-shot the Maroons, 7-0, Jakubek broke through the Roanoke defense, one-touching a Rachel Cooke (Charlottesville, Va.) pass into the net in the 56th minute.

- The Hornets didn't wait long to add insurance. After a 60th-minute free kick, Emily Maxwell (Quantico, Va.) found Duggan in the box, and the sophomore finished for a 2-0 Lynchburg lead.

- Roanoke cut the deficit to one in the 87th minute when Tori Young netted a goal, but Lynchburg held on for the win.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will return to the ODAC final after a one-year hiatus from the league's championship match. The Hornets will face No. 4 seed Bridgewater, which upset Virginia Wesleyan in the first semifinal match Saturday. Bridgewater took the regular-season meeting between the two teams, 1-0, at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field on Oct. 25.
