Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg College's women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 3-2 to Virginia Wesleyan, Saturday night on Shellenberger Field.
Georgie Duggan (Stafford, Va.) scored the first goal for the Hornets in the 53rd minute. A few minutes later, junior Caitlin Mertens (Succasunna, NJ) notched a goal, assisted by a terrific through-ball from freshman Dana Seavey (Mendham, NJ).
VWU bounced back with three unanswered goals in the final 31 minutes, all scored by sophomore Alex Davidson.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first half of the match started off slow with only three shots from Lynchburg and two from VWU.

After halftime, Lynchburg took the lead with an unassisted goal off the post by Duggan.

Mertens, assisted by Seavey, gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead over the Marlins.

Davidson sparked a change in pace with game had a change in pace after a direct kick 20-yard goal by Davidson. Less than a minute later, Davidson tied the game, 2-2, with a goal assisted by Zoe Traficante.

Davidson added a third score in the 86th minute to give VWU the win.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets hit the road again Wednesday, Sept. 27, to face Eastern Mennonite in a Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.
