Box Score Lynchburg, Va.-- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team shut out the Generals of Washington and Lee, 1-0, Wednesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.
Senior forward Caitlin Mertens (Succasunna, N.J.) scored the only goal of the night with an assist from senior midfielder Kennedy Jakubek (Leesburg, Va.). Senior goalkeeper Delia LoSapio (Raleigh, N.C.) earned six saves in the net in her fifth shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first half both teams proved to be evenly matched and entered halftime in a scoreless tie. Lynchburg got in 10 shots and seven shots on goal.

Mertens stepped up and scored two minutes into the second half, finishing Jakubek's cross. Washington and Lee only got five more shots in and couldn't score giving the win to the Hornets.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets will continue playing this Homecoming weekend Saturday, Oct. 20 on Shellenberger Field at 5 p.m. against the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan.
