Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The quest for the three-peat lives on into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference semifinals.
Second-seeded University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team cruised past crosstown rival and No. 7 seed Randolph with a 3-0 conference quarterfinal result.
Sophomore midfielder Ben Mackey (Leesburg, Va.) scored the game-winner and tacked on an assist to boot, while senior midfielder Dan Friedberg (Blacksburg, Va.) and junior forward Hussein Osman (Dadaab, KENYA) also scored for the Hornets, which remain ranked No. 10 in the D3soccer.com national poll.
Lynchburg's defense locked down its 11th shutout of the season, allowing the WildCats just one shot.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams played the possession game early, but Lynchburg broke through as the match got going and scored in the 17th minute. Junior forward Robert Dunham (Ashburn, Va.) made an end-line drive into the box and passed back to Mackey, whose right foot bested the WildCats defense.

Lynchburg added on in the 24th minute when Mackey played a perfect ball into the box that Friedberg headed into the net from close range.

The Hornets added their final insurance in the 76th minute, another right-side cross from senior defender Austin Kues (High Point, N.C.) that made its way to a sliding Osman, who finished with the right foot at close range. Lynchburg racked up 16 shots in the second half.
LOOKING AHEAD
Lynchburg will pack its bags for Lexington, Va., and Washington and Lee University for the ODAC championship weekend, where the Hornets will take on No. 3-seeded Bridgewater in the second semifinal match on Saturday, Nov. 3. Top-seeded Washington and Lee and fourth-seeded Roanoke make up the other half of the bracket. Match times are yet to be determined.
