Lynchburg, Va. -- Junior forward Robert Dunham (Ashburn, Va.) scored his first-career goal, and it wound up being the difference in University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team's 1-0 victory over Emory & Henry in Wednesday evening's Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener.

Dunham streaked into the box in the 54th minute and got a foot on a cross by sophomore forward Abibi Osman (Charlottesville, Va.) for the lone score of the match.

Lynchburg out-shot the Wasps, 25-2, but the Hornets had trouble getting past goalkeeper Cole Irvin; the E&H keeper finished with 12 saves.

Senior goalkeeper Dylan McLaurin (Stafford, Va.) and the Hornet defense posted their fifth shutout of the season, holding E&H to two shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Hornets ripped 10 shots, five of them on goal in the first half, but couldn't get past Irvin into the net.

• It didn't take long in the second half as Dunham intercepted Osman's cross right in front of the net and one-touched it in. Lynchburg mustered 15 more shots in the second half and seven corners but couldn't extend the lead.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will continue its first week of ODAC play Saturday, Sept. 22 with a trip to Greensboro, N.C., to take on Guilford.
