Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team fell to Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Roanoke, 2-1, Saturday evening at home on Shellenberger Field.
The Hornets (9-4-1, 4-2 ODAC) and the Maroons (11-3-1, 5-1) played an even match for 90 minutes, but it was the Maroons that came out on top and snapped Lynchburg's five-match win streak.
Sophomore Amanda Wigboldy scored her 12th goal of the season in the 56th minute, a double assist from seniors Natalya Rodriguez and Sarah Barnes that broke what had been a scoreless match.
The Maroons responded with an unassisted goal from Hailey Davis to knot the match up at one-all. Roanoke scored again in the 77th minute on a goal from Kathryn Van Orden on an assist from Emma Woods to put the Maroons up 2-1.
The Hornets had an opportunity to tie the match late in the second half on a free kick after a Roanoke foul, but the Wigboldy shot was blocked and time ran out.
Lynchburg's women's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 as the Hornets travel to Randolph-Macon College to take on the undefeated and No. 17-ranked Yellow Jackets in a 4 p.m. Old Dominion Athletic Conference match.
