Box Score Bridgewater, Va. -- Jack Ashby and Carter Averette each scored as University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team earned a 2-2 road draw at Bridgewater in Wednesday afternoon non-conference match between Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents.
The tie was the third straight for the Hornets (3-3-4) and the fourth in their past five matches, and Lynchburg broke its four-match scoreless streak as well.
Bridgewater (2-7-1) captured an early advantage on Canandez Long's third-minute goal, but the Hornets evened the score in the 12th minute when Joey Daly found Ashby, who finished for his first score of 2019.
BC took the lead again on Leo Alcantara's goal in the 19th, but Lynchburg tied the match again before halftime, this time from Averette, who finished a Michael Lyons free kick. The goal was Averette's collegiate first, and the assist was Lyons' first point as a Hornet.
Neither team was able to find nylon after halftime, although Lynchburg finished with advantages in shots (23-10) and corner kicks (10-2).
The Hornets will return home next Wednesday in a return to ODAC play as Randolph-Macon visits Shellenberger Field for a 7 p.m. match.
