Box Score Ashland, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker, 4-3, to No. 15 Randolph-Macon Thursday afternoon, in a match that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Senior Alyssa Rudy led the Hornets (9-5-1, 4-3 ODAC) with two goals and an assist on the night, but it was not enough as Lynchburg fell late as the Yellow Jackets (15-0, 7-0) scored two unanswered goals in the final 25 minutes.
Rudy found the back of the net on an assist from junior Emma Hiett to get the scoring started for the Hornets in the 18th minute. The lead did not last as R-MC responded with a goal from McKenna Maler off an assist from Maddie Bauman to tie the game at one-all.
R-MC scored in the 39th minute, but Lynchburg responded in the 41st with another goal from Rudy to take a 2-2 tie into the break.
Senior Natalya Rodriguez broke the tie in the 56th minute on a double assist from Rudy and sophomore Amanda Wigboldy to put the Hornets back on top.
R-MC responded with two goals late in the second half to defeat the Hornets.
The Lynchburg women's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 as they travel to Shenandoah University for a 1 p.m. Old Dominion Athletic Confernece matinee match.
